What Xiliro is
Xiliro is a growing collection of free calculators, converters and practical online tools.
The collection covers maths, statistics, unit conversions, dates and times, text, random generators, technology, cooking, everyday money calculations and health. It may expand into other useful areas as new tools are developed.
Each tool is designed to do one job clearly. Where possible, Xiliro also explains the formula or method behind the result, so you can understand how the answer was reached.
Why I built Xiliro
My name is Dev Sooriyar, and I’m a nurse with experience in both acute and community care. Xiliro started as a personal hobby project, combining my interest in practical problem-solving with a growing passion for artificial intelligence and healthcare.
I created the site with the help of AI tools, using them to support research, drafting, organisation, development and quality checks. The aim was simple: build useful calculators and practical tools that are easy to use, clear to understand and available without unnecessary steps.
Working in healthcare has made me appreciate the value of tools that are straightforward, dependable and respectful of people’s time. Xiliro is not a healthcare service, but that experience has influenced the way I think about clarity, accessibility and usability across the site.
I’m particularly interested in how AI can be used responsibly to support better digital tools, including in healthcare, while keeping human judgement, accuracy and transparency at the centre.
Xiliro continues to be a hobby project, and I plan to develop it carefully by adding useful tools where they genuinely add value.
Why Xiliro exists
Simple calculations can be surprisingly frustrating online. A quick percentage, unit conversion or date calculation is often hidden behind account requests, distracting pages or tools that provide an answer without explaining it.
Xiliro is built around a simpler idea. Useful tools should be quick to open, easy to understand and clear about the methods they use.
There are no accounts to create. Choose a tool, enter the required information and get your result.
Privacy conscious by design
Most Xiliro tools perform their calculations entirely within your browser. The numbers, text and other values you enter are not normally sent to Xiliro.
Some tools may need information from an external service to work correctly. The Currency Converter, for example, requests current rate information from Frankfurter, an independent exchange rate data service. Only the selected currency information needed to retrieve the rate is included in that request. The amount you enter and the result calculated for you are not sent as part of it. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Clear methods and limitations
Xiliro aims to explain the formula, method or conversion used by each tool. Where more than one recognised convention exists, the tool should identify the convention it follows. This may apply to calculations involving quartiles, rounding, dates, measurements and unit definitions.
Some results also depend on personal circumstances or information that a general calculator cannot establish. This is particularly important for tax, financial and health tools. Their results should be treated as general estimates or information, not as legal, financial, tax or medical advice. See Editorial & Calculation Standards for the full picture.
Accessibility
Xiliro is working towards WCAG 2.2 AA as an ongoing accessibility goal. Accessibility is treated as part of the design, development and review process rather than as a single completed task.
The website is designed with keyboard access, visible focus indicators, labelled controls, responsive layouts and accessible error and result messages in mind. See the Accessibility page for more detail.
