Base64 Encoder & Decoder
Encode text to Base64, or decode Base64 back to text, entirely in your browser.
How it works
Base64 is an encoding format, not encryption. It makes text safe to store or transmit as plain ASCII characters, but anyone can decode it back to the original text instantly. It provides no confidentiality or security whatsoever. Encoding and decoding both happen entirely in your browser using standards-correct UTF-8 conversion, so accented characters, other scripts, and emoji all round-trip correctly. When decoding, ordinary whitespace and line breaks within the pasted Base64 are ignored (Base64 is often wrapped onto multiple lines), but any other invalid character, incorrect padding, or byte sequence that does not form valid UTF-8 text is rejected with a clear message rather than shown as broken text.
What this result means
The result is your text converted to or from standard Base64, entirely in your browser.
Examples
- "Hello" encoded to Base64: SGVsbG8=
Assumptions and limitations
- Standard Base64 only — there is no URL-safe variant.
- This tool works on text, not files: it does not accept file or image uploads.
- Base64 is an encoding format, not encryption — it provides no confidentiality or security on its own.
