Worked example
20% of 50 is 10, because 20 ÷ 100 × 50 = 10.
How it works
This calculator covers three related questions, using the same three numbers throughout so you can see how they connect. "What is X% of Y?" works out X ÷ 100 × Y: 20% of 50 is 10. "X is what percentage of Y?" works out X ÷ Y × 100: 10 is 20% of 50. "X is Y% of what number?" works out X ÷ (Y ÷ 100): 10 is 20% of 50, so the answer is 50. The last two questions need Y to be non-zero, since dividing by zero has no percentage answer.
What this result means
The result answers exactly the question posed by the mode you selected.
