Time Duration Calculator
Calculate the elapsed time between two dates and times.

Worked time
- Decimal hours
- Total minutes
Worked example
09:00 → 17:30 is 8 hours 30 minutes. 19:30 → 08:00 the next day (entered as that later date) is 12 hours 30 minutes. Add a 45-minute break to 07:30 → 20:00 (12 hours 30 minutes elapsed) and worked time is 11 hours 45 minutes.
How we calculated this
This tool calculates the elapsed time between two exact date-times, entered as plain wall-clock values with no timezone attached. Both values are assumed to be in the same timezone or context. This tool does not detect, convert, or adjust for timezones or daylight saving changes. If an end time is on a later day, enter that later date explicitly; a time such as 01:00 is never assumed to mean "the next day" on its own. The end date-time must not be earlier than the start. An optional break, entered as whole hours and minutes, is subtracted from the elapsed time to give worked time. This is a general-purpose time tool. It does not calculate pay, overtime, or break-entitlement rules.
What this result means
The result is the elapsed time between your two date-and-times, and — if you entered an optional break — the worked time remaining after subtracting it.
Assumptions and limitations
- This is a maths tool, not payroll software — it does not calculate pay, overtime, or break entitlement.
