Volume Converter
Convert a volume between metric, US customary and Imperial units, keeping US and Imperial units distinct.
Result
Worked example
1 US gallon is 3.785412 litres. 1 Imperial gallon is 4.54609 litres. These are genuinely different units.
How it works
US customary and Imperial volume units are kept separate throughout. A US gallon (legally defined as exactly 231 cubic inches) and an Imperial gallon (legally defined as exactly 4.54609 litres) are different sizes, so Xiliro never labels either one as a plain, ambiguous "gallon". Enter zero or a positive value; the displayed result may be rounded for readability, but the underlying calculation always uses the full, unrounded value.
What this result means
The converted value uses exact, defined conversion factors between the two units you chose.
Assumptions and limitations
- Cups are not included in this general converter — for US cups, tablespoons and teaspoons, see the Cooking Unit Converter.
- Negative values are rejected, since a volume cannot be negative.
