Cooking Unit Converter

Convert cooking measurements such as cups, teaspoons, grams and millilitres.

Measurement type

Mass and volume are different measurement types. This tool never assumes an ingredient's density, so it does not convert between the two (for example, it will not convert cups of flour to grams).

Worked example

1 US cup is exactly 8 US fluid ounces, and 500 grams is exactly 0.5 kilograms.

How it works

This tool converts cooking measurements only where the conversion is exact: volume to volume (millilitres, litres, teaspoons, tablespoons, cups, fluid ounces, pints) or mass to mass (grams, kilograms, ounces, pounds). US and Imperial units are genuinely different systems, so "cup", "pint" and "fluid ounce" are always shown with an explicit US or Imperial label rather than left ambiguous. Cooking volume and mass are different measurement types. Xiliro does not estimate ingredient density, so it does not convert grams directly to cups. Enter zero or a positive value; a negative measurement is not meaningful for an ordinary recipe quantity.

What this result means

The result uses exact, defined conversion factors between the two cooking measurements you chose.

Assumptions and limitations

  • US teaspoon, tablespoon and cup are US customary units (a US cup is approximately 236.59 mL) — there is no Imperial teaspoon, tablespoon or cup.
  • This tool never converts between volume and mass (for example, cups of flour to grams), because that depends on the specific ingredient's density, which Xiliro does not hold.
