How we counted this
Xiliro identifies words using your browser's built-in, locale-aware text segmentation, which understands word boundaries across many languages and scripts, not just text separated by spaces. This correctly treats a contraction such as "isn't" as one word, and splits a hyphenated word such as "test-case" into two. A line is any run of text between line breaks; a paragraph is a run of non-blank lines separated by one or more blank lines. This tool counts words only; see Character Counter for a character-count breakdown.
What this result means
The three figures shown are word count, line count, and paragraph count — there is no character or sentence count on this tool.
Assumptions and limitations
- Other tools and platforms may count words slightly differently, since there is no single universal definition of a "word".
